Emily Auchincloss is a painter and one of the artists included in the exhibition shape_shifting_support_systems who has turned to weaving and textile-based practices. Trained as an artist and art historian, Auchincloss exploits form, symbol, and flatness to playfully amplify the complexities of each. Her intimately sized weavings are tight combinations of color, shape, and texture that seduce us in detail. Auchincloss is an educator as well as an artist, and a direct artistic descendant of Anni Albers in her approach to both teaching and aesthetics. Born and raised in New York City, Auchincloss received her MFA and a Master’s in Art History from The Pratt Institute. Her paintings and weavings have been exhibited nationally and internationally, most recently in A Wild Note of Longing: On Albert Pinkham Ryder and His Influence at the New Bedford Whaling Museum.”
