Arrival Art Fair set to reimagine the gallery experience with Tourists takeover in June

NORTH ADAMS — In the art industry, exhibitors bringing just a few wares to display at an art fair might classify it as “a suitcase fair” — one where the work is transported by hand or in large suitcases.

 

That’s an apt description for Arrival, a new invitational biennial art fair coming this summer to Tourists, according to co-founder and Brookline gallerist Yng-Ru Chen — though, “hotel room fair” would fit just as well. From June 13-15, a select group of 32 exhibitors from New England and beyond will mount displays in the rooms at 915 State Road.

 

In its inaugural year, Chen and fellow co-founders, North Adams and Boston-based artist Crystalle Lacouture and Bay Area art consultant Sarah Galender Meyer, are looking to showcase the region’s offerings in a unique, laid-back Berkshires setting. The impetus for establishing the art fair came when its founders were at dinner a few years ago, talking about the state of the industry and reflecting on recent experiences at larger fairs...
